FUNDING ALERT: Youth Employment Initiative (YEI)

Suzanne AllenBlog & News

A new call has been released to fund projects backed by Youth Employment Initiative (YEI) and European Social Funds (ESF), supporting young people into employment, training or education opportunities.

Projects must cover the following LEP areas:

Coventry & Warwickshire

Greater Birmingham & Solihull

Liverpool City Region

North East (Durham)

Approximately £25.5m of ESF and YEI is available. For full information about this call click here

What is YEI and who can apply?

Areas that are identified as having very high levels of young people not in employment, education, or training (NEET) are eligible for Youth Employment Initiative (YEI) Funds. Eligible areas were identified at the beginning of the 2014 – 2020 European Social Investment Fund Programme. The funds are exclusively for supporting young people aged 15 – 29.

These funds are complementary to European Social Funds and are implemented in line with ESF rules and guidance.

Any organisation can apply, and they do not have to have received ESF funds before, but participants of the projects must reside within the eligible YEI area, and they must meet the NEET young person criteria – which will be stated in the funding call.

YEI projects for NEET young people often include support for providing training and apprenticeships, addressing basic skills needs, or overcoming barriers to entering or reengaging with the labour market.
