Constructing the future: How the skills needed for success in the workplace are changing

As the world of work continues to develop and change, The Work Foundation and City & Guilds examine how new technologies are shaping skill-demands and training, through the lens of the construction industry.

This report outlines the main challenges faced by the construction industry and the UK workforce generally, including:

  • Developing leadership and management skills appropriate for a collaborative and digitally-enabled industry
  • Attracting more young people and ensuring they develop the skills required
  • Continually developing the skills of the existing workforce, having appropriate provision and incentives to engage the smallest businesses and the self-employed
