EIT Food Female Agrifood Entrepreneurs Report

The European Institute of Innovation & Technology’s initiative EIT Food has released their latest research into gender bias in female entrepreneurship, and the barriers women face as founders and CEOs. Within the agriculture industry 38% of people employed are women, and in 2018 3% of Agrifood tech industry funding was taken by female-only founded companies, despite evidence female owned tech start-ups are more likely to be successful than male counterparts.

Using data from surveying participants of the various EIT Food entrepreneur support programmes, the report shows 75% of women have experienced negative gender bias and 83% have experienced this while pitching. The survey also finds engaging men is essential to advancing gender equality with 97% suggesting training is needed for men on gender bias.

The report also states EIT Food is committed to advancing gender equity and makes recommendations for interventions within their industry and beyond.
