Strengthening employee share ownership in the UK

The World Economic Forum has found that wealth inequality in the UK has been increasing over the last five years, while income inequality has slightly declined on average. Addressing this imbalance requires new thinking from government.

This report from The Social Market Foundation suggests that giving workers a stake in their employer, through employee share ownership, could boost their wealth and pay, and also increase employee voice in the economy.

The report assesses the potential for employee share ownership to reduce inequality, tackle the UK economy’s productivity crisis, improve financial resilience and increase employee voice within companies.
